Discussion Post: Transition to Practice
Instructions
Yalom's The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy offers a theoretical understanding of the way a group develops and functions. One of the criticisms of Yalom's work is that it does not offer a "handbook" of how to conduct groups, but rather a theoretical understanding of group dynamics and group process.
We will be focused on applying the theory of group practice while learning skills needed to conduct groups in practice. The film, Impact Therapy: Group Counseling -- Essential Skills That Make Groups More Productive is the starting point for our class to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
After viewing the film Impact Therapy: Group Counseling -- Essential Skills That Make Groups More Productive, respond to the following questions:
• What concerns you most about stepping into the role of a group therapist? What do you think you need the most support with to improve your competency as a group leader/therapist?
The response should include a reference list. One-inch margins, Using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space and APA style of writing and citations.
