Problem
Nana Sounds is involved in the record industry from start to finish. Although recording and CD manufacture are contracted out to external suppliers, this makes no difference to the fact that these activities are part of Nana Sounds own value chain. Nana Sounds earns its money by managing the whole set of activities. If the company grows then perhaps it will acquire its own recording studios, Nana Sounds is a small record company. Representatives from Nana Sounds scour music clubs for new bands to promote. Once a band has signed a contract (with Nana Sounds) it makes a recording. The recording process is subcontracted to one of a number of recording studio firms which Nana Sounds uses regularly. (At the moment Nana Sounds is not large enough to invest in its own equipment and studios.) Nana Sounds also subcontracts the production of records and CDs to a number of manufacturing companies. Nana Sounds then distributes the disks to selected stores, and engages in any promotional activities required.
