Purpose of assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to help you get comfortable in front of an audience and to practice passionate, engaging delivery.

Before you begin working on any formal speeches, you should brainstorm what topics are most interesting to you while you get some speaking experience under your belt. Because it is important to be passionate about your topic, you should first discover your passions. You will begin your audience speeches by talking about what you know best - YOURSELF!

Begin by placing three items in a bag. The size of the bag and items does not matter. You can use a plastic zip bag, a backpack, a trash bag...whatever will fit your three items. Also, the three items don't matter as long as they are meaningful and symbolic to your life. (If you have an item that is very expensive or too big to fit in a bag (e.g., a car, a house), a picture of the object will work just fine.)

Start by introducing yourself to your audience. Then, "show and tell" each of your three items, explaining how each item is meaningful and/or symbolic to your life. Each item should take you approximately 1 minute to explain.

Hints: Don't write out this speech. Simply talk to your instructor in a conversational tone. It is best to have a small outline with you to remind you of your topics, but otherwise speak from the heart.

Speech delivery: You must make sure that you are NOT simply reading a speech word for word. You may have an outline but the key to the delivery of this speech is to be excited and enthusiastic about what you are communicating.

Time Limit: Your speech should be 3-5 minutes long.
