Problem:
Before looking at any of the material in this module, share your initial thoughts on what you believe critical thinking is and why educators and employers think it is so important. State what you think the goals of a critical thinking class should be. Also, human psychology is messy. One psychologist describes the human mind as "kludgy"--thrown together inelegantly by evolution. It almost seems, in some ways, the mind is hardwired to prevent us from thinking critically. It is important to understand the mental obstacles we face when attempting to form true beliefs. Before reviewing the materials in this unit, try to anticipate some of the cognitive hindrances we face and how they can affect our ability to engage in critical thinking. Explain how you think these hindrances have kept you from thinking critically in the past (i.e. give examples).
