Who: Terry Walters and Sam Meadows - A male same sex couple wanting to get married in Washington State Mary Hoodson, owner and proprietor of "Marriage by the Book LLC" a wedding planning company.
What: Terry and Sam want to plan a summer wedding. In January, Sam contacted Ms. Hoodson and inquired about her wedding planning services, stating that he and Terry wanted to get married in the summer. Mary quoted a price and services and told Sam that there would be a deposit of $500 due at the signing of a contract. Sam agreed to hire "By the Book" to plan his wedding. Mary sent a contract to Sam via email. The contract was faxed back to Mary being signed by both Terry and Sam, and a deposit was made by check. A couple weeks later, Sam and Terry met with Mary. Upon realizing that the wedding was going to be for a same sex couple, Mary cancelled the contract, returned the deposited funds immediately stating that marrying a same sex couple was against her religious beliefs. Terry and Sam felt they were victims of discrimination due to sexual orientation and are suing Marriage by the book.
Question:
What would the couple get if they win the lawsuit?
How much would they win/gain from the case?
