Insulin normally activates a phosphatase that causes dephosphorylation of proteins, including enzymes. But what if a virus blocks insulin's ability to activate phosphatases in your liver? Which enzymes in all of the metabolic pathways that we've reviewed would no longer be covalently modified? What would be the functional consequence to each of these enzymes? What would be the overall metabolic consequence of this virus to glycolysis, the TCA cycle, and gluconeogenesis?
