Problem
Weekly segments are taken from The Servant Leader: Transforming Your Heart, Head, Hands, and Habits by Ken Blanchard & Phil Hodges.
"When we talk about servant leadership, most people think that means the 'inmates are running the prison', or the leader is trying to please everyone. People who think this way don't understand that there are two parts of the leadership that Jesus clearly exemplified:
A visionary role-doing the right thing
An implementation role-doing things right" (p. 44).
In this segment, we first consider Leadership Vision. "Servant leadership begins with a clear and compelling vision of the future that excites passion in the leader and commitments in those who follow" (p.45). The key parts of good vision for servant leaders are:
Purpose/Mission
Your Preferred Picture of the Future
Your Values
Task
• In terms of purpose/mission, what is your business? How will you benefit your customers/clients
• In regard to your preferred picture of the future, where are you going? What will you look like if everything is going as planned?
• Your values- what do you stand for? How do you want people to behave when working on your mission and picture of the future?
