Homework 1: History of Gaming & E-Sports
For this writing homework, choose one of the two short answer prompts below and write a two-page, double spaced paper addressing the questions/topics listed.
I. Analysis and Application: What were the defining features of the NES-era games? What new genres and technologies were pioneered and explored in this time? In what way did gaming change since the first generation Atari consoles? What impact did figures like Mario have on gaming and pop culture?
II. Gameplay Analysis: Choose an NES game to play. You can either play one that someone you know has or search online as there are many free emulators. You can pick a game mentioned in this module or one of your own choosing. Play the game for at least 20-30 minutes (or longer if you'd like!) and answer the following questions and prompts.
i. What is the name of the game? Who was the original developer?
ii. Describe the gameplay. Was it easy or hard to figure out how to play the game? Rate the level of difficulty of gameplay based on your experience.
iii. What is the genre of the game? What are the similarities or differences from more modern games in the same genre?
iv. What made the game fun? Describe the elements that were the most interesting or boring.
v. Imagine that you are a game designer. What changes or improvements would you make to this game?
Project Homework 2: Nintendo and Game Boy- Project
In this homework, you will use what you've learned about careers in video game design to create a fictional job description and resume.
Part I: Create a job description for a fictional video game designer position. The job posting should be at least two paragraphs in length, and include a brief description of the company, summary of the job responsibilities, essential skills needed, minimum education and experience minimum requirements, and salary range.
Part II: Create a fictional resume for a qualified candidate applying for the advertised position. You can create your own webpage or a resume document. Your resume should be organized well and look authentic, there are many free online resume templates that you may use as references. Be sure to include detailed descriptions and make the resume relevant and appropriate for the advertised position. Resume must include a name, profile, work history, education, and skills. The universities and companies can be fictional or real locations.
Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:
i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
ii) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
iii) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
