Problem

Scenario:

The Cross-Cultural Center for Global Citizenship and the Center for Social Action will be hosting a call-in advocacy day on Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Center for Global Citizenship.

Members of the SLU community will have the opportunity to call and write letters to Congress representatives encouraging them to pass House Concurrent Resolution 110 & Senate Concurrent Resolution 47. Both measures commends the Iranian people for fighting for justice and democracy while speaking out against human rights violations during current protesting in Iran. There has been an ongoing series of protests and civil unrest in Iran since September 2022 in reaction to the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman who died under the custody of police after being arrested for wearing an improper hijab.

There will also be a teach-in event at the Clock Tower on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where members of the local Iranian community will share their stories and experiences of how they have been impacted by the protests.

Reflection Activity
