The initial speech-language evaluation revealed slowed processing speed and memory impairments affecting performance of lengthy and complex tasks. Neil answered concrete and abstract yes/no questions and followed two- and three-step commands, but he had difficulty with four-step commands. When read a paragraph, Neil immediately answered simple yes/no questions about the story with 80% accuracy. However, when asked to retell the story immediately after hearing it, Neil could not generate either the main idea or details.
