Discussion:
PART 1:
QUESTION 1; Why do so many people live in areas that are at high risk for natural hazards? As more is known about plate tectonics and the causes of earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions, the regions of the world that are most susceptible to these geological hazards are well defined. Coastal hazards for hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones are well documented.
People choose to live in flood plains, in forests, and in regions with frequent tornados. What are some factors that may contribute to population growth in dangerous areas? Provide examples that illustrate population growth in danger zones and the consequences.
Part 2
Question 2; For this discussion, there are three parts to this assignment:
1. Provide a couple sentences telling us about you, what you like and what your dream job would be in Emergency Management.
2. In your dream job in Emergency Management?
3. It it vital to make sure you are completely focused in response; what are some ways you can ensure you're in the game when it is time to respond and not distracted?
Part 3
Chapter 1 Natural Disasters and Human Population
1. In 100 to 200 words: What types of natural disasters killed the most people in the past 40 years? Where in the world are the deaths from natural disasters the highest? Where in the world are insurance losses from natural disasters the highest
2.In 100 to 200 words: Describe the comparison that Gregory van der Vink and Princeton students drew between natural-disaster deaths to levels of democracy and economic development. (Abbott, 2013, p. 11)
3.In 100 to 200 words: Given the unprecedented population growth rates of humans, are there roles that governments, religions, and cultural institutions can play? Or is it best to just let events unfold as they may?
Chapter 2 Internal Energy and Plate Tectonics
4. In 100 to 200 words: What energy sources caused the interior of the early earth to heat up? Describe difference between nuclear fission and nuclear fusion.
5.In 200 to 400 words: Plate tectonic theory explains how the upper layers of the rocky Earth (lithosphere and asthenosphere) move about and in so doing cause earthquakes and volcanism. In a narrative format, discuss the key facts and critical issues presented for this topic.
6.In 50 to 100 words: Describe Brittle, ductile and elastic behavior, and provide examples.
Chapter 3 Earthquake Geology and Seismology
7. In 100 to 200 words: Describe types of faults and seismic waves.
8. In 100 to 200 words: Describe ground motion and building response during earthquakes. What factors can change the resonance of buildings? Provide an example.
