Problem
What Jennifer is running late for class, so she goes just a bit over the speed limit. However, the police officer who is working speed enforcement thinks that Jennifer's driving 15 mph over the speed limit is just too fast. Jennifer looks in her rearview mirror and sees the blue lights right behind her. She really doesn't have time for a ticket, so she decides to keep driving. Unfortunately for her, the police officer behind her is also having a terrible morning, and now this traffic citation has turned into a vehicle pursuit. Jennifer continues driving for about 2 miles, with the police lights AND sirens directly on her bumper, when she finally reaches the school parking lot. The split second she puts her vehicle into park, she is jerked out of the vehicle and thrown onto the ground. She hits the pavement so hard that her two front teeth are knocked out. The officer, still hyped on adrenaline, tells Jennifer to place her hands behind her back, but she is apparently too slow to move, so he commences to pepper spray her. Jennifer is finally handcuffed as backup units arrive.
• What type of law, if any, would apply to Jennifer's actions? Explain.
