David is a 12-year-old boy on an impatient pediatric unit receiving chemotherapy for bone cancer. David was diagnosed with the condition two years ago. He lives at home with his family. Prior to diagnosis, David was actively engaged in a number of school activities- the science club, basketball, and after-school activities including soccer, swimming, and playing video games. Because of his treatment schedule, David has been forced to miss school and reside in the hospital for extended periods of time. His current recreation activities are limited due to the effects of chemotherapy and hospitalization. In addition to fatigue and pain episodes, David's treatment has resulted in fine motor control problems. He can no longer play video games because he has lost the ability to use the controls and keyboard.
THESE LIMITATIONS HAVE CAUSED LEISURE LACK.
David has expressed interest in being able to play video games so that he can interact with his peers on the unit and with his friends and siblings when they come to visit.
