Problem
The purpose of this discussion is to look at messages and assumptions about surveillance, regulation and social control in our own social contexts.
Reflect on your day-to-day routines and interactions (for example, think about where you've been in the last 24-72 hours and with whom you've interacted) and consider whether you encountered any 'technologies' that surveille / regulate populations. Some technologies may reflect Bentham's concept of the 'few watching the many', and some may be obvious while others are not.
Keep in mind the 'technology' does not need to be digital.
What 'technology' did you find? Is it critiqued in society or simply accepted as part of the social landscape, and what are some implications of this dynamic?
