Classmates,
There are a lot of advantages in a diverse workforce for an organization, first would be in the spoken language, a lot of companies now a day expand into global markets because it benefits from language diversity. One good example would be in cell phone companies like Samsung or Apple. Before, both companies only started in their own country (Apple in the US, Samsung in Korea) however, now they have expanded on different locations in the world.
Guess how many ethnic backgrounds are working for those companies? A lot. Usually, an increase presence increases sales as well. Another benefit would be an increase in creativity in the organization because of specializing in workforce diversity, everyone one who has different background bring in a unique way of techniques and solutions that can achieve a common goal. So, the more variety of people that get involved the best chances of getting a workable solution they can produce. Thus, will improve the overall performance of the company.
On the other hand, if an organization that does not embrace diversity, possible negative consequences could likely to struggle and have issues within the organization.
First, they will have a significant impact on their staff. For example, a company that says they have diverse talents, but without a diverse team, some employees would instead work in a workplace that has the same background as themselves, so that they can have the confidence that can function as a team. But if this is not met, they will feel isolated and might hinder productivity and decrease workflow within the organization.
There are a lot of ways that a manager can implement to enhance cultural awareness and overcome biases or stereotypes. One is by providing diversity to the workforce, instructing employees, managers, and supervisor on various diversity training which can expand their knowledge, ideas, and work styles.
Also, once they are aware of diversity they can also be trained on preventing employee stereotyping within their department within the organization. Managers can assign work groups to employees and mix them up with co-workers whom they have limited contact. Managers must be creative on this procedure and need to make a strategy that can benefit on both sides of the party that can produce the same result despite having different background or ethnicity within the group.
