Assignment task:
Observe and take anecdotal notes about your focus child's interactions with their classroom teacher, family caregiver, and/or peers. Based on what you have learned in previous modules and Basics of Supporting Dual Language Learners: First Language Development, p. 15- 18:
1. Identify what stage of language acquisition this child is in for their FIRST language, using text and observation-based evidence to support your assertion.
2. Determine whether the child's second language is developing simultaneously or sequentially with their first language and explain your rationale.
3. Describe at least three strategies and three missed opportunities observed related to language acquisition. When describing these observations, be specific about which WMELS standards in the language domain your observations relate to, including the specific level the child is working toward within the standard and which language the child was using at the time (first or second language).
