Problem:
Government agencies have two specific challenges that are unique to them, contrast to other business types. The first challenge is that government agencies are constantly dealing with shrinking budgets. With an increase in requirements, it becomes more and more difficult to comply to demands. Another problem faced by government agencies are obstacles presented by legacy systems. One might think a simple fix is to just upgrade all equipment, but it isn't that simple. Large maintenance windows and complications can occur just to name a few. I would overcome both of these challenges just by using the RFP model. Government agencies typically use this model when faced with a problem and require the assistance of a vendor/organization for a solution. We could issue an RFP describing our issues with the legacy systems. We would get a verity of proposals and be able to choose the one that best fits our needs. We could do the same for the issue revolving the shrinking budget. Another solution for the shrinking budget would be to create policies to be more restrictive on spending. Requiring that any projects involving a certain amount go through multiple approval processes.
