What social problem would you tell them to focus

Assignment task:

A memo as if you were the advisor to the new President. What social problem would you tell them to focus on as they begins their new term? What is the cause of that problem, and what are some solutions they might consider?

Keep it straightforward and clear, explaining your issue, cause and solution. You might, perhaps, explain a theoretical point of view or all of them (functionalist, conflict, or interactionist) on the specific problem, and tell them why you are choosing that point of view.

Every January, you should read (not listen to)  the President's recent address to Congress, what is normally called "The State of the Union".  Most Presidential speeches at this time every year lay out 3 social problems we have solved, 3 that we are working on, and 3 that we should start to work on.  However, you are not bound by whatever the President says, and you are free to advise them on whichever social problem you believe is most important to focus our attention.

Keep in mind the cost/benefit practical side of politics, and how hard it is to get a consensus! It is also important to find an issue that will make the citizens listen, and be willing to spend time or money to solve. You may give them data that supports your solution or defines the problem.

You must be persuasive and clear! Remember, they have many issues to juggle, and you are trying to convince them that YOUR problem is the one that either most people want to solve, or that will benefit the nation in the short or long-run, and get the attention of the public to get the Congress behind them, even if they are politically divided.
