Problem
The nurse is working in an emergency department when a 15 year old girl is admitted via ambulance. According to the mother, the girl had a grand mal seizure lasting 30 minutes and stopped right as the paramedics arrived. However when the paramedics arrived on the scene they stated that the patient was awake, alert, oriented and did not notice the loss of bowel/bladder function. The mother stated that the patient had an appointment with a neurologist two days before and they were awaiting results. The neurologist declined to prescribe any medications. The emergency room physician wants the nurse to give IV dilantin, max dose for weight.
