Assignment Task: What role did third gender or "two-spirit people" play in Native American society?
Ideas about the relationship between third genders and sexual behavior can vary quite a bit. For example, in many societies third genders do not have sex with each other; man-like-woman third genders (what we would consider gay men and transgender men though obviously there is no one-to-one correspondence) would have sex with "straight" man as those are their ideal sexual partners. How are our ideas of sexuality and third genders different than Native Americans?
