Problem:
As a kid, I grew up seeing this "newspaper" at the grocery check-out with my mom trying to distract me from reading the headlines-ones sure to give me bad dreams. It was after reading those crazy headlines that my mom started me on the path of doing my own "research" to learn more about fact, fiction, and likelihoods. Knowing more about a topic made it less scary and I learned some great tools for doing my own "research". The Lochness Monster was my personal favorite mystery. Here are some ideas for your post to get you started:
Consider a research topic of someone's choice that could be studied quantitatively. Try creating a research hypothesis and share what variables they might include in their study. What things might they need to consider when selecting participants for their study?
What research question most interests them in their field or line of work? Briefly, how might they utilize quantitative methods to approach a study on that topic?
After completing the readings for this week, share which reading most interested them or made them feel was most immediately relevant to their own professional or academic career.
