Shanequa Richards is a teacher of a group of 4-year olds in Amelia Earhart Elementary School. Her children represent a variety of cultures, including Mexican, American Indian, Anglo, Black, Syrian, Vietnamese and Indian.
A group of four children is playing in the block area during learning center time. Darius said, "Ooh! Let's build something."
"Yes, tall," replied Hon
The teacher asked, "What tall building will you build?"
"I live in a partment," Caitlyn replied. "Me too. Partment!" shouted Maricella.
"What kind of blocks would we need for a tall apartment?" asked Ms. Richards
"Lots blocks," said Hon.
The children then started gathering blocks to build their new apartment.
