Assignment task: Many American adults got their news through social media and what shows up on individual Facebook or Twitter news feed is determined by an algorithm the site uses to tailor experiences as closely as possible to what has been clicked on, relinked, and liked in the past. While this is a boon for advertisers, it can create false perception of reality where everything seen agrees with the individual, hiding any contrasting ideas and perspectives. The individual news feed becomes a metaphorical "echo chamber" in which beliefs become amplified and reinforced through repetition.
What problems might arise from many people living their lives in an echo chamber?
What are your news sources and how do you know that they are fair and accurate?
