What problems have solved or contributions you have made

Assignment

The goal of this assignment is to create a 30-60 second personal elevator pitch that you can use as a current George Brown marketing student for networking purposes. You will submit a video of your elevator pitch in BB via a YouTube link or Mp4 video along with a written script.

An elevator pitch is a clear, brief message about you. It communicates who you are, what you are looking for and how you can benefit a company or organization. It is typically about 30-60 seconds. The idea behind having an elevator pitch is that you are prepared to share this information with anyone, at any time that might be a good contact or connection for you. For example, at a career fair, you can use your pitch to introduce yourself to potential employers. It is important to have your pitch memorized and practiced. You want it to sound natural and be able to breeze through it when the time comes.

Content:

The pitch topics below will help to write a carefully planned and prepared presentation that grabs the listeners' attention and says a lot in a few words.

ABOUT YOU

Smile, and open with a statement or question that grabs attention: a hook that prompts your listener to ask questions later.

Tell who you are: (you are a marketing student at GBC, potentially where you currently work or any relevant organizations you are involved in). Consider sharing your name, year in school, major skills and career goals. Include personal information only if it is relevant to the work for which you are applying.

Tell what you do and show enthusiasm.

WHAT DO YOU OFFER?

What problems have solved or contributions you have made to organizations you have been involved with.

Tell why you are interested in your listener or their company.

What are the advantages of working with you? What makes you different than working with other people?

Give a concrete example or tell a short story, show your uniqueness and provide illustrations on how you work.

CALL FOR ACTION

Ask for what you want from this exchange. If you want a business card, a referral or an appointment for a presentation after your elevator speech?
