Write a 2-3 pages essay about your selected individual that discusses the following points and uses at least one quote and one paraphrase from your AIU Library located source(s). Be sure to use citations and aligned references:
the individual is Barack Obama
a) The reason for your selection of the individual.
b) The obstacles the individual overcame to achieve success.
c) How the individual overcame the obstacles.
d) The importance of education to the individual.
e) What motivated the individual to achieve?
f) Tips/inspirational ideas from the individual that you can apply to your educational and professional success.
g) How learning more about the individual impacted your motivation to succeed?
If you use quotes or information from your sources, please provide basic resource information (author, title, date, and page number-if applicable) within the document. This information is important to being academically honest about what your contributions are to an essay as opposed to what the contributions of outside sources are. Here are two examples of how to paraphrase, quote, and cite from a source within the document.Note:Theyellow high lighting provides a model of what information you need to include in the citation;do not highlight these items in your essay, however.
1) Example of paraphrasing someone else's words:
Brown (2009)argued that consumption of chocolate is crucial for students who are practicing academic honesty.
Notice that in example 1, the author (Brown) is a grammatical part of the sentence. In this case, the lack of quotation marks indicates that the writer is paraphrasing Brown.
2) The definitive study(Williams, 1999) established the positive impact of chocolate on thecerebral cortex of college students, enhancing
the ability to accurately identify and use academic honesty practices".
In example 2, the writer is quoting directly from Williams, which is why there are quotation marks around Williams' original language.
Because it is directly quoted, the writer also provides a page number where readers can find the quote.
The date is also provided in both examples to help readers locate the source in the library.
Use these examples as models for your own uses of outside sources in this essay. Once you have used a source citation within the document, be sure to provide the rest of the source information at the end of your document. This is necessary so that the reader can
locate the source you are citing in case there is an interest in following up on the topic.
