Problem
A. Set time and place to interview a couple you know well about their beliefs on rearing children and the challenges and joys they have experienced over the years as parents. Make sure to ask about how children affected their relationship.
B. Review the various parenting styles discussed in Chapter 12. What methods do you use (or did your parents use, if you currently have no children) to discipline your children? How would compare yourself to other parents? Using the information provided in the textbook, write how you might develop a better parenting style, if you think yours is lacking and/or what you think you are doing well, and why.
C. Letter to parents: Parenthood can be a challenging task; children are often too busy and too overwhelmed by their own problems and concerns to think about their parents' feelings. Write letter to your parents, or the person(s) who most positively impacted your upbringing, thanking them for all the things they have done for you and for their unique human qualities.
D. Letter to children: Write letter to your current or future children, telling them what qualities as a parent you most wish to have, and what kind of relationship with them you are hoping for in the future. Finally, please express your wishes for your children's lives (e.g., health, happiness, success, to have great relationships, etc.), and what kind of role you hope to have in their lives.
