i. What Medea did was brutal and inexcusable. But can we still feel any sympathy towards her? Why? What message is Eurypides trying to convey to his Athenian audience through this play? Consider Medea's unique position as a "barbarian" woman with supernatural qualities.
ii. What is the significance of Pentheus' punishment in this play? Is he the only one who is guilty of hubris? What do you make of Dionysus' intentions and how he's toying with Pentheus until his death?
