Advocacy: Writing a letter to an elected representative
Pretend that you emailed an elected representative of your city about crime and community safety. There were two cars that were broken in to this year in the neighborhood and police could only do so much. Theft from vehicles is an increasing crime in the community. The elected rep has not replied yet.
A. How and why is it important was it to take this action?
B. Did it make a difference?
C. Did you feel you advocated effectively?
D. What would you do differently next time? Any strategies?
E. What learnings can you apply to future macro social work?
F. What does this exercise show you about your strengths or areas to work on in order to become an effective macro social worker?
