Problem:
With the concept of transnational ties and what they mean for the ability of Latinos (particularly immigrant arrivals) to assimilate/acculturate and incorporate into American society. Do you see overall more positive or negative effects of transnational ties on Latinx American identity? In thinking about this concept, I personally like to use the analogy of transnational ties being akin to "political suitcases" brought to the U.S. by Latinx (and other immigrant) arrivals. Think about some examples: Imagine a young Latino who fled Cuba in the late 1970s to find asylum in the U.S. away from the regime of Fidel Castro - what kind of political suitcase might that man have brought with him?
