Meet Anna. Anna is 22 years old and a recent college graduate whose only debt are school loans of $12,000 (subsidized) and $4000 (unsubsidized). While she is seeking full-time employment, Anna is working as a bookkeeping assistant for a small promotional products company, a job she was referred to through a temporary agency. Having come from a frugal family, Anna prides herself on having excellent budgeting skills and believes she can afford a modestly priced apartment within a few miles from her job. Anna applied to lease an apartment for six months, but her application was denied for an insufficient credit history. Because she no longer lives in the same city as her parents, Anna is thinking of renting a room in a house where her boyfriend Jason and a few of his friends from college stay. Jason tends to live paycheck to paycheck, he has saved no money since graduation, and his checking account has a whopping $43.67 in it. On the other hand, Anna has been saving $50 a month since she was in high school and with interest from the bank she has close to $5600 in savings. Up to this point she has no expert information or knowledge about investments and once she lands a professional job, would like to put more money away every month.
