The outline and draft annotated bibliography should include:
• Showing the process of critical analysis of the topic
• How you relate the topic to your major
• Displaying a fundamental understanding of research analysis and comprehension of the essential transferable skills (reading, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, writing, oral communication, and information literacy competencies)
• Applying relevant quantitative data to support arguments & conclusion
• Drafts of annotations for at least FOUR OUTSIDE SOURCES. At least TWO of the sources should be SCHOLARLY and at least ONE of the sources should come from a different credible source. Sources are formatted in APA or MLA
For each resource used in the final report (a minimum of 4 sources), do a bibliography with annotations. The bibliographic references should be organized in alphabetical order by primary author last name, and the resources should be property cited using American Psychological Association (APA) or Modern Language Association (MLA) format. The annotations for each reference should be formatted in the following way:Your annotations should address each of the following in short paragraphs:
A. First, summarize the source in two to three sentences, considering the following questions: what issue or problem did this source address? What was the source's main claim(s) and what reasons or evidence did it use to support these claims? For more help, see the OWL's handout on paraphrasing sources
B. Second, in three to four sentences, evaluate the quality of the argument(s) presented in the source, considering the following questions: is the source trustworthy? What kinds of reasons or evidence (e.g., anecdotal, scientific, statistical, appeals to authority or principle, etc.) were used to support the main claims? Were the reasons sound and did the main claim(s) logically follow from the reasons? Overall, did you find this to be a persuasive argument?
C. Finally, in one to two sentences, explain and reflect on the relevance of this source for your project topic/issue. How will this source help you answer your research question(s)? For more help, see the OWL's handouts on evaluating resources.
