The Beauty of Language 6 6 unread replies. 6 6 replies. We tend to communicate better with people who are similar to us, whether that be in co-cultures, life experiences, or language spoken. The wonderful thing about language is that we can have two people who live in the United States and speak English, yet have trouble understanding one another due to slang, jargon, regional differences, or background. Simply speaking the same language as someone doesn't guarantee that you'll be able to communicate effectively.

• What is your favorite word or phrase in your native language? (It doesn't have to be English!) Explain why this word/phrase is your favorite.

• What is your name, and where did it come from? (Example: My name is Meghan Ann, my mother was a big fan of the show The Thornbirds which she watched while pregnant with me. The main character's name is Meg or Meggy and she loved it, hence Meghan. Which also I also found out means "pearl". Ann is a family name and many of the women on my mom's side have Ann as their middle name) Would you change your name if you could? Why?
