For this week's reading reflection, I'd like you to select one of the following four authors: Rebecca Solnit and/or Steve Locke and/or Louise DeSalvo and/or Gloria Anzaldúa [Since we're reading other essays by Teju Cole, I'm leaving out Teju Cole for this reflection]
Your reading reflection is due on SS, in the Assignments window as a WORD doc attachment by 6 p.m. Sunday October 2nd
Select two of the essays that you found interesting and/or insightful and write up a comparative rhetorical analysis. By now you're familiar with the elements of the rhetorical situation, and you know that you need to think about how each writer decides to work with the following elements:
? What is the writer's context for writing the piece? Note that I've provided you with the necessary information in the ways I've scanned the readings to understand each writer's context. Where does the essay appear published? How does this relate to the ideas in the essay?
? How does the writer see their role as a writer? And also what is the role they see for writing non-fiction?
? Who is the intended audience for the two essays you're comparing?
? How would you define the author's purpose in writing?
? What feelings is the writer trying to generate and/or elicit in us readers?
? Does the writer establish their trustworthiness, or credibility? How?
? How does the writer structure and organize their ideas? Do you see a logical organization?
