Problem 1: Select an article from a peer-reviewed journal that addresses either the Infant or Maternal mortality rates in the U.S. This broad topic was chosen so that students can share various aspects to this topic. Examples include: compare rates to other countries or exploring what initiatives are being done to address the high U.S. infant and/or maternal mortality rates. Do not include a topic that has been covered in prior modules. Summarize and analyze the article and place on the course discussion board as your initial posting.
Problem 2: Some things to consider in your response include: What is the U.S. infant and maternal mortality rate (IMR)? How does this differ from many other industrialized nations? Does prenatal care make a difference in lowing the infant and maternal mortality rates? How costly is prenatal care within the U.S. (GNP) in relation to other nations? Is there a disparity in these mortality rates among ethnic/racial groups? How can we as APRNs help to address these rates in the U.S.?
