6. (Repeat from TH 2) Create a table for comparing two computer systems, use a table to compare (use a Table of 3 columns, and 10 rows); Use the top row for headings, and on column 1: List 5 criteria that you can use to measure the performance of a computer (hardware), and list other criteria for choosing a computer such as hard disk capacity, monitor size, any software, etc. in column 2, and 3, write specifications from two vendors. Your Table must be beautifully formatted
B. Problems (show your computation, and assumptions, handwritten is ok)
1. Assume that your Operating system needs 800 million of instructions/pieces, and your word processor's software for productive work has 550 million. How much RAM do you need? (Explain, max, min, also make your own assumptions answering this question. )
2. Show what is stored if the memory contains:
a. 10110011 b. 111010101
c. 1111100001 d. 11111111
3. Show how the following numbers are stored
a. 193
b. 293
c. 591
Part II Hands on, to save time, your handwriting is ok for this part. But, print and submit a sample of your practice.
A. Setup your word processor's Option; do, and write how you did it
1. Customize the word so that you will have your favorite commands on the Quick Access Toolbar. Try some of the following: Save, New Doc, Undo, Align left, right, Bullet/numbering, Font, Font Size, Boarder and shading, Select all, Print, Outside border, Insert a picture, Decrease/increase/indent, Increase the font size, Change the selection to all caps, Insert textbox. Practice doing the following, and through abbreviations or notes show how did each (again, you need to do it, while doing make a note of it.)
a. Set the MS-Word color scheme to Black (if you don't like black, change it to another color.)
b. Display/see all the formatting marks
(a) What is the symbol for "next line"?
(b) What is the symbol for the "Enter" Key? (is it a new paragraph? )
(c) What is the symbol for TAB?
c. For Proofing, set the Autocorrection for
(a)"Don't Ignore"UPPERCASE
(b) Check spelling as you type
(c) Show readability statistics
(d) Make auto correction so that if you type "toin", it will be corrected to " tion"
d. When Saving a document:
(a) Save with 2003 format
(b) Save every 3 minutes
(c) Set the default location to your own folder that you created (your name, or ITM1270)
e. Set the advance options so that
(a)When pasting some text, keep the "original" format
(b)Show at least 10 documents in the "recent Doc"
(c)Always create a back up copy, every 3 minutes.
(d)Provide feedback with sound
2. Insert a table of 6 columns, 14 rows, similar to the Table on page 2 of the Syllabus
a. Type proper column & row heading, Practice adjusting the Column Width or Row Height
b. Add a column or a row; or delete a columns or a row.
c. Merge Table Cells, or Split Table Cells (hint: Select rows -> Layout )
d. Practice highlighting a row, or highlighting the text content of a row
3. A. For the Table that you created, through a chart/graph, show some of the properties of the Table Object, and properties of its sub-objects (like the row sub-object) Hint: insert a smartArt
B. Practice the following, and show through your note or abbreviations how you did it.
b. Change the boarder of the table to have a dark blue boarder and a width of 6 points
c. Change the background color of the table to light blue
d. Set the height of all cells to .75"
e. Set the cell margins to 0
f. Set the background color of every other row with a shade of blue
(Again, Print and submit the sample of your work)
4. . Insert a table of 5 by 5, type a number in each cell, do
a. Set the height and width of each cell to .75 inches
b. Set the background color of every other row with a shade of blue
c. Set the outside border to 3 pts
(Again, Print and submit the sample of your work)
Part III Applications, Using your tool effectively
1. Use Excel, create an analysis table for your performance in this course (similar to the Table on page 2 of the Syllabus)
1. Type a clear, descriptive heading
2. Type Proper column and row heading, Practice adjusting the Column Width or Row Height
3. Type some hypothetical data for your TH 1, 2, and 3; and Test 1
4. Write the function to compute the total for points assigned, and the total for your points [ = sum (D4:D18) ]
5. Compute your percentages by "your points/total assigned"
6. Play "what if" (like what if you get 65 in test 1, or what if you get 50 in test 1) and report your grade.
Make sure to print and submit your work for proper credit.
2. You just started to work in a company, in the IT department, and you are asked to design, develop, write and edit a newsletter. Go ahead and create a sample, give your best shot.
Hints for creating a Newsletter (design it first)
• Think of essential part of a newsletter, design a layout (turn in your design)
• Review an article, related to computer systems, summarize it, an put it in the newsletter
• Have a section called: "New Trends". Review an article, related to a IT, summarize, and put it in the "New Trends" section.
• Have a section called "Did you know", and put ideas/excerpt in it, with a catchy title
• Another section can be called How to, and put interesting things about computers, information systems, etc.
In doing this assignment, you should use your word processing skills that you have learned (you should use the MS-Word.) Make sure that you are using Multicolumn Newsletter, boarders, different colors, pictures, textboxes, word Art, page No. , tables, drawings, and shading.Minimum Requirements: (one page Newsletter is ok)
a. Atop and bottom border for your Title
b. a bottom border for the volume, date, etc
d. Two columns or more for the content
e. Include tables, pictures, clipart, smart Art, Shapes, and a drop Cap, etc.
(1) Design the Newspaper (on a piece of paper, hand drawn is ok). Submit your design
(2) Implement your design using MS-Word, print and submit your newsletter.
