Discussion Post: Selecting a Community of Interest
Identifying a community health need can be challenging, especially when there are so many needs in each community. To facilitate the selection process, use local, state, national and global data sources, such as the CDC and WHO, as major sources of information on the most current health problems that affect both U.S. and global communities. Use these data sets to gather preliminary information about your community of interest health needs. For this assignment post, answer the following questions:
• What is the population of the selected community?
• What public health problem is of great concern to this population?
• Who is your target population and what percent is affected?
• What is the age, gender, race, and socioeconomic status of the target population?
• What are the risk factors for this public health problem?
