Assignment:
The gap between minimum wage and living wage is a hot topic today.
For this, first take a look at the Living Wage Calculator offered by MIT. Pull up the state and county where you currently reside.
- What is the living wage vs. minimum wage for a family like yours in the county where you live?
- Are there items listed in the "Typical Expenses" chart that you believe are unrealistic? (For example, is it possible to pay a car note, fuel, and maintenance using the figure given for transportation?)
- Are there items listed in the "Typical Expenses" chart that you believe could be reduced? (For example, is it possible to reduce housing expenses by having a roommate?)
Now, compare those expenses to the suggestions offered by Well Kept Wallet's article, How to Survive on Minimum Wage
State Mississippi, Forrest Count. 2 adults, 2 children.
