Observable behaviors include: being polite avoiding controversy needing safety and approval attempts to define tasks and seek clarity Since this stage is the very beginning of team formation, it is understandable while some may exhibit tentative behaviors and be unsure. When in unfamiliar surroundings, we all seek safety and knowledge whether we are conscious of it or not. In order to advance from this stage, team members must allows themselves to pushed from their comfort zone. Storming is the next stage within the 5 models. This stage is dominated by leadership, power, and structural issues. Observable behaviors include: lack of role clarity power struggles arguing among members vying for leadership It also makes sense to me why this stage would follow forming. Thanks to our innate social nature, once our walls come down a bit and we are more comfortable around others we openly express our true thoughts and have less fear of being disliked. First impressions are everything, so once that is established, any team would start dividing and rankning itself.
