Assignment: Sanitary Authoority
Each student is to submit a 2.3 page summary (type-written) of the information provided during the tour of the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority (WVSA) Sewage Treatment Facility. The lab write-up is due at the beginning of the next week's lab class.
The Report should include information, including but not limited to the following:
• Source of the Sewage
• Volume of waste treated
• Treatment Process. Please add the removal of SOD, solids and nutrients in each treatment.
• What are the main variables recorded/measured daily/Weekly/Monthly in the plant? i.e. BOD, COD, DO, etc.
• location of water/waste discharge and disposal. What concentration of chlorine is used during the disinfection process and how long is the contact time?
• What is the biggest water quality concern facing the plant? What plans, if any, do the operators have for reducing the concern?
• What is the importance of the activated sludge process?
• As water uses and wastewater generators in the Wyoming Valley, we all contribute to the wastewater being sent to the WVSA while attending school in Wilkes-Barre. What specific types of pollution prevention action(s) can we undertake to reduce the volume, the pollutant loads, and toxicity of the wastewater that is being sent to the WVSA?
• Has the facility met the new total maximum daily limits of Nitrogen, Phosphorous and total dissolved solids- What was the process used to meet the standards, what were the estimated costs, how was paid for
• Is this plant capable to receive waste from tracking process?
