Problem
Early in Wolf Hall, Sir Thomas Boleyn calls Thomas Cromwell "Butcher's dog" (70)(pt. II; ch. 2). When he leaves England to cross the "narrow sea", Cromwell is sad that he will have to leave his dog, Bella, behind. Later, Cromwell owns a dog whom he names "Bella." Gregory Cromwell also has dogs, as does Anne Boleyn. What is significant about these dogs? What do they symbolize?
