What is meant by the term's Equal protection and Due Process? Explain the difference between the two (2) terms.
The Equal Protection Clause falls under the Fourteenth Amendment and works to prevent the state government from enacting criminal laws that arbitrarily discriminate. The clause states that "no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States." This is regarding equality to include race, color, gender, sexual orientation, and age of a person. The idea behind the Due Process stems from that a governmental body may not deny people equal protection of it's governing law.
The Due Process Clause also falls under the Fourteenth Amendment but extends to the federal government if the discrimination violates the due process of law. It states "no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process. In simple terms this equals out to fair treatment through the normal judicial system, especially as a citizen's entitlement.
