Problem
Many believe that there are significant differences between, on the one hand, civil and political rights, and, on the other hand, social and economic rights. They believe not only that the two kinds of rights can be distinguished but also that civil and political rights are genuine rights in a way that the social and economic ones are not.
1. What, in your opinion, is the best reason for thinking that there is such a difference?
2. How might defenders of social and economic rights respond to this argument?
3. What do you think -- is there a significant difference and priorities between these two classes of rights or not?
4. Explain your answer with examples/cases.
5. In human rights discourse, what is meant by preserving human dignity?
6. Explain your answer with examples/cases.
7. Does international scrutiny of compliance under obligations concerning human rights constitute interference in the internal affairs of States?
