Problem 1. What is manipulative advertising? What is associative advertising? Give examples of advertisements that you consider manipulative. Does advertising socialize people to a life of consumption? To what extent does it influence or even dictate our individual brand and product choices.
Assuming manipulative advertising is effective, does it undermine one's autonomy? Does it promote undesirable behaviors and character traits, as the virtue-ethics critique alleges?
Problem 2. Is advertising a positive or socially desirable aspect of our economic system? If so, why. If not, why not?
