1. Julie is a 30-year-old woman who is 153 cm talland weighs 57.6 kg. She has a desk job and does not exercise on a regular basis.
a. What is Julie's body mass index (BMI)?
b. Using the Harris-Benedict equation, calculate her basal (resting) energy expenditure (BEE) and her total energy expenditure(TEE).
c. Calculate Julie's TEE if she begins an exercise regimen consisting of 2-3 aerobic workouts each week.
2. James is a 21-year-old male athlete who is training for an Ironman triathlon up to 12 times per week. James weighs 79 kg and stands at 171 cm. Calculate his BEE and TEE.
3. Will is overweight. Based on his current weight and height, his caloric needs are approximately 2600 calories. After speaking with his doctor and a dietitian, he begins eating between 2000 and 2100 calories per day. How will this impact Will's weight?
