What is it like to study professional counseling online

Understanding Qualitative Research Designs:

Paper instructions:

What is it like to study professional counseling online? As a student, you could explore this question simply through the connections you make with your peers in the classroom or at residency. As you get to know your peers, you are likely to discover that there are some common themes that connect you to others. For example, you might discover that a common theme is that students struggle to find a balance between work, school, and family.

However, this information would only be anecdotal and your process of discovering it might lack a systematic process that would allow you to rely on it for decision-making purposes. What if you were going to approach the question from a qualitative research framework? What methodology would you use? How would you gather your data? What types of analyses would you employ?

In this Discussion you analyze the methodology employed in a professional journal article and understand the implications of the research findings for your professional practice.

With these thoughts in mind:

Review the Walden Library for counseling-related research articles that use qualitative methodology. Select a study published within the last 10 years that used one of the three types of designs discussed in Counseling

Research: Quantitative, Qualitative, and Mixed Methods.

Write a well organized, one and a half pages brief description of the study you selected including the type of design used. Then, explain how this design might be used to inform practice in your counseling specialty.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references from the Learning Resources.
