Assignment task:
1) Unlike reenactment, LARPing generally makes use of fantastical, neomedieval settings. What is it about neomedievalism that appeals to LARPers? Be as specific as you can in your answer.
2) Using either Lego castle sets or Disney princess products as an example, explain how medievalist toys send messages about chivalry and gender roles. Why do modern children and their parents still find these ideas appealing
3) Medieval reenactors can never truly reproduce the past. Is reenactment still a worthwhile exercise? Why or why not? Answer, using specific examples to support your opinion.
4) What sort of changes, alterations, or renovations cause a medieval historical site to stop being "authentically" medieval? Discuss, using at least one site discussed in lesson material as an example
5) Digital manuscripts and reconstructive archaeology are two of our newer tools/methods for studying the Middle Ages. Explain what each can add to our understanding of the medieval period, and why they are both so valuable.
