Problem:
Let's think about diarrhea (or even constipation) from the perspective of what is going wrong in the GI system (specifically the colon). Take it step by step like you are a detective:
1. What is diarrhea? (not something we always want to talk about but is a common topic in the world of nutrition/clinical medical work)
2. What are some of the most common causes of diarrhea? What about long term diarrhea (say longer than 1-2 wks)?
3. What can be the long term effects of diarrhea? After you think about these questions think about this: can saltines and water help diarrhea? Has anyone ever been around a child who has had diarrhea and someone recommends the BRAT diet? If so, what does BRAT stand for and how does it work? Has there been any relatively recent research on the efficacy of BRAT diet? Do these findings alter what YOU would recommend???? Did your mom or grandma or caregiver offer you BLAND- easy to digest foods when ever dealt w the dreaded GI BUG-Virus?
