Recognizing that social work is now a global profession it is necessary for social workers to be aware of the issues that are encountered. The global community continues to face health disparities, poverty, and an increase in orphans, and vulnerable children, gender-based violence, and related critical issues, social workers must begin to build and expand collaborations with in-country professionals and programs to promote comprehensive, culturally competent services.
The issue facing the global community of Abuse and Neglect of Children:
1) Using the global issue of abuse and neglect of children discuss how this topic is a critical issue facing the global community
2) Discuss the problem of Abuse and Neglect of Children on a global and cultural level
3) Discuss the etiology or the problem and the population that it impacts on
4) Indicate how their own assumptions, values, biases, positionalities (gender expression, age, race/ethnicity, etc.) could affect their practice of global social work.
5) Examine issues of power, privilege, oppression, social justice, and the processes and impact of the global influences such as acts of war, colonization, extraction, international aid and development, and democratization.
6) Discuss the implications for global social work policy and practice in international settings.
