Assignment task:
When working with youth that suffer with anxiety and/or depressive disorders, counsellors must consider the somatic, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral considerations impacting the adolescent's overall level of functioning. In addition, there considerations will aid in the accurate diagnosing of the different types of anxiety and depressive-related disorders that might impact an adolescent (e.g., phobias, generalized, separation, panic, etc.). Please review the following two attached resources (Mullen 2018; Siegel & Dickstein, 2012) below for more information about the different types of anxiety and depressive disorders.
Getting the diagnosis right will inform a specific evidence-based treatment approach, treatment goals/interventions, and overall prognosis. What are some different presentations/disorders that are anxiety and/or depression based on the readings? What are some of the diagnostic nuances (differences) between them? Finally, what is the connection of anxiety and depression with suicide?
