HRA 360
You just got an email from Jane, an acquaintance of yours who is a sales supervisor with another company. She writes:"I supervise a salesperson named John. I just found out (don't ask me how) that he makes more money than me -even though I'm basically his manager! And I'm not talking about commissions, I'm talking base pay! Hello?!? That burns me up...typical male-dominated company!"You are the compensation expert; how would you respond (professionally, please) to Jane? In your response, take a stand on the issue of pay grade overlap. Is this a useful practice? Why or why not? What alternatives (if any) do you believe are more practical? Be prepared to support your answer with evidence from the textbook or outside sources.Specifically:
What points would you add to your peers' discussions to support their positions?
Where do you and your peers disagree? What information did your peers overlook in their responses to this issue?
How would you have responded differently regarding the issue of pay grades?HRA 498Discuss the compensation philosophies and approaches that have been used at any one organization where you have worked (no need to name the organization, though you should discuss the nature of the product or service provided).Answer the following questions related to that system:?Were they market based, or internal equity based?
Were they competency-based to help you grow and develop? Based on the use of some formal job evaluation system?
Was there a team performance component included?
How were base salaries typically set?
Was it a performance based system? Based on seniority? Based on across the board increases for everyone? Based on cost-of-living increases only? Based on lump-sum approaches or a bonus?
Did it include a variable pay component (incentive system)? A piece rate system? A profit sharing a stock ownership component?
Were supervisor ratings used or peer and/or self-appraisals? Were 360-degree approaches used? Or was the system based on a combination of some of these factors?
How were executives paid? Were their total packages based on salaries, bonuses, long-term performance-based incentives, or other benefits and perks such as a "Golden Parachute")?
Finally, what were the consequences of these philosophies and approaches? Do you think they helped the organization complete its strategic objectives or not? Were they consistent with Saint Leo's Core Values?
Your initial response should not consist solely of opinion statements, but be supported by factual information. As references, you may use your textbook or other articles and resources. Remember to use APA format for in-text reference citations.PSY 338Post a considered paragraph or two about the worst and best working environment you've beenin: that is, the least satisfying environment and the most satisfying environment. Was the most satisfying necessarily the most motivating, and was the least satisfying also the least motivating? Think about it. Explain the environmental, behavioral, and other factors that contributed to your satisfaction or lack thereof in each environment. If you have never worked outside of the home, interview someone else who has and use their information (being certain to present it as such). Is there anything about YOU that makes you different from other people in terms of what motivates you and what satisfies you? Are they ALWAYS the same thing? Be sure to answer each and every question within your post, but be sure to have a smooth flow. (Do not just post questions and answers; we are not interested in your ability to make a bullet point list...that is a given.)
